Industrialist's son remanded to police custody till Mar 17
Mumbai, Mar 13 (UNI) A metropolitan court has remanded rape accused Abhishek Kasliwal, the son of a prominent mill owner, to police custody till March 17.
Abhishek (27), who was arrested last night for allegedly raping a 52-year-old woman in Worli, was produced this morning before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate P P Suroshe at Boiwada who remanded him to police custody.
Defence counsel Shirish Gupte, however, argued that his client was ''falsely implicated'' in the case, as per the statement given by the accused to the police.
Meanwhile, public prosecutor A B Dhamal said this was a primary stage of investigation and more time was required for the probe.
Abhishek, the son of Sriram Mills owner Ambuj Kasliwal, was arrested following a complaint lodged by a woman, hailing from Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, yesterday alleging that she was raped by him.
The victim stated in her complaint that she was waiting near the Jehangir art gallery in Colaba area for transport to go to Mumbai Central railway station to take a train to Naigaon past midnight on Saturday when she was offered lift by a man driving a car.
She alleged that instead of dropping her at Mumbai Central railway station, Abhishek took her to the Sriram mills premise in Worli and raped her.
However, she said she had noted down the car number and approached Colaba police station to lodge a complaint.
Since the crime took place in Sriram mills situated in Worli area, the case was later transferred to Worli police station.
After the victim's complaint, police had arrested Abhishek and booked him under sections 376 (rape) and 325 (causing grievous injury) of the IPC and also seized his Mercedes Benz car.
Police said the medical reports confirmed that the woman had been sexual by assaulted.
