Gujarat Board to use CCTVs in sensitive exam centres

Ahmedabad, Mar 13 (UNI) For the first time in the state, closed circuit television cameras (CCTVs) will be installed in several sensitive examination centres during the Class X and XII state Board examinations to be held from March 16.

Chairman of the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board Hasmukh Hingoo said 125 centres have been identified as 'sensitive'.

''We will observe these centres and if needed we will deploy CCTVs. About 100 flying squads have been formed, which will monitor these centres,'' he said.

Sixty-four out of the total 275 centres for the 12th standard examinations, and 61 out of 466 centres for the Class 10th Board exams have been declared 'sensitive'. These are considered as high-risk zones for copying during exams or vulnerable to other problems, he said.

A control room has been set up in every district headquarters and also in Gandhinagar and Vadodara, which will keep vigil on the conduct of the examinations.

A total of 7.51 lakh students will be appearing for the Class 10th board exams while 2.32 lakh will go in for the Class 12th examinations.

On the lines of the CBSE, 15 minutes' extra time has been granted to the students to go through the questions before writing their this year.

Stating that all arrangements are complete, he said Committees headed by District Collector have been formed to oversee the arrangements.

Counselling facilities have been made available both at the state and district levels. ''Students were advised on how to go through the papers and also given tips to destress themselves. Psychologists gave them special hearings, whenever there was a need,'' Mr Hingoo added.
