Gehlot calls for prompt compensation to Rajasthan farmers

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) Congress General Secretary Ashok Gehlot has urged Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje to intervene to provide quick relief to farmers hit by recent rains and hailstorm by arranging for prompt payment of ompensation.

Like last year,there has been a good crop of mustard this year, but the State Government has not made any proper arrangement for its purchase and payment,forcing the farmers to sell their produce at a less price to middlemen, Mr Gehlot, a former state Chief Minister said in a statement here.

Mr Gehlot said the rains and hailstorm had ruined the crops at several places, including Kota, Alwar, Bikaner, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Bharatpur and other districts, forcing the farmers to move from pillar to post for compensation.

The Rajasthan government must call for report from the concerned district collectors for payment of compensation for loss of crops on a priority basssis to give releif to farmers, he said.
