Fresh snowfall in upper reaches, plains had rains in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 13 (UNI) The upper reaches in the Kashmir valley, including famous ski resort of Gulmarg, experienced fresh snowfall while plains, including Srinagar city, had rains.

However, the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway remained open for traffic despite rains.

A tourist official told UNI over phone from Gulmarg that after rains since morning, it started to snow in the afternoon.

About few inches of fresh snowfall was recorded on the slopes, which are under four to five feet of winter snow, he said.

The Upperwat and seven springs also recorded snowfall, much to the delight of hundreds of foreign and demostic tourists who had come from different state where the temperature had gone up.

Official sources said the holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir also experienced about one feet of fresh snowfall since early this morning while about four inches to one feet of snowfall was recorded at Pissu top, Mahaguns, Sheshnag and Panjtherni.

The Zojila, highest point on the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway also recoreded fresh snowfall. The highway is closed for traffic due to heavy snowfall since November 17 last year.

The plains, including Baramulla, Uri, Sopore and Handwara also experienced rains, resulting in cold.

The Srinagar city also experienced light rains disrupting normal life.
