Doctors involved in machine purchase scam of IGIMS

Patna, Mar 13 (UNI) Doctors of the Opthalmology department of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) here were found involved in a purchase scam of EXIMER LASER, an important gadget used for eye treatment.

A second hand junked and non-functional machine was bought while the payment was made for new one for Opthalmology department of the institute.

The Vigilance Investigation Bureau had lodged an FIR on March 4 this year against Director of IGIMS Dr D K Yadav, the then Head of the department of Opthalmology Dr Mahesh Chandra, the then IGIMS Director Dr P C Choudhry, doctors in the Eye department Dr Mrinal Anand and Dr Subhash Prasad and IGIMS Finance advisor S R Gyene.

According to the FIR, the authorities had been charged with fraud and forgery resulting in misappropriation of fund. All these people purchased a junked non-functional Eximer Laser from Messers, Ganbel, Medimart Private Limited, Banglore, overlooking the expert comments in which they had been advised not to buy the epuipment from Messers Ganbel.

Cases had also been lodged against T Chidambaran, president of Messers Ganbel-Banglore and its agent in Patna, Neel Mohan.

As per the investigation report submitted by the bureau the purchase committee of IGIMS with Dr Yadav, Dr Chandra, Dr Anand, Dr Prasad, Dr Choudhry and Mr Gyene as its members gave green signal to purchase the machine namely Laiser Scan from Messers Ganbel which had quoted Rs 1,32,23,430 for the equipment.

The report revealed that the expert of Eye department of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, Dr Supriya Ghosh had advised to purchase the machine from K L B Nietek, New Delhi, which had quoted Rs 1,23,60,320, lower compared to other bidders.
