Chennai, Mar 13 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI), which protested over the numer of seats allotted to it by the DMK, today declared that ''everything is settled'' and the party would continue in the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA).

''As far as seat sharing is concerned, we have reached a conclusive agreement with the DMK, heading the DPA. The ten seats alloted to the CPI are final and there is no change in it,'' state unit President D Pandian told mediapersons here.

The CPI, which had reached an agreement with the DMK for ten seats, expressed dissatisfaction when the DMK allotted 13 seats to the CPI(M), with party cadres mounting pressure, to either get more seats or quit the alliance.

Soon, the state executive met and there were hectic parlyes, forcing the national secretary D Raja to rush here and persuade the cadres. The party leaders after calling on DMK President M Karunanidhi last night, thrashed out the differences and decided to stay with the DPA.

On reports that the CPI was dissatisfied with the number of seats, Mr Pandian said ''none of the problems exist now....everything is settled...CPI's alliance with DPA continues and we will wholeheartedly work for the victory of DPA in the May eight assembly elections.

''The CPI has now moved on to the next phase of identifying the constituences and selection of candidates,'' he added.

Disagreeing with reports that the CPI became enraged after CPI(M) was allotted 13 seats, Mr Pandian said that they ''did not see it as 10 and 13, but as the Left parties on the whole, getting 23 seats.

There is nothing to be angry about.'' Conceding that the cadres were angry over allottment of ten seats to the party, Mr Pandian said that once the party has taken a decision, the cadres would abide by it and work for victory.'' He replied in the negative when asked whether the DMK offered a Rajya Sabha seat as part of the settlement. ''Neither had we demanded nor was there any offer from their side. It (Rajaya Sabha seat) was not in the agenda,'' he added.
