Cong list of candidates for Assam likely tomorrow

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) The newly-constituted Central Election Committee of the Congress, headed by party President Sonia Gandhi, met here this evening to finalise the names of Congress candidates for the Assembly elections to be held in two phases in Assam.

While the CEC is believed to be considering names of candidates for all the 126 Assembly seats in the state, candidates for the first phase of elections to be held on April 3 may be announced tomorrow.

The Committee, which met at the residence of the Congress President, is likely to sit till late tonight to finalise the names proposed by the Screening Committee.

The Congress, which is presently in power in Assam, is likely to go it alone in the Assembly elections.
