Chhattisgarh security Act gets Presidential assent

Raipur, Mar 13 (UNI) The Chhattisgarh Special Public Security Act 2005,a law passed by the state legislative assembly with an objective todeal with naxalites and contain unlawful activities, has got Presidential assent, official sources said today.

The legislation, passed by the assembly during its winter session in December last year, would become operational after its notification in gazette.

The Act provides that an organisation, its frontal outfits or anyone extending support for unlawful activities could be banned, while such activities could invite punishment.

According to the Act, an organisation, which was directly or indirectly involved in committing any unlawful activities or aimed at encouraging, assisting or inducing unlawful activities by any medium would be declared as unlawful through a notification.

Besides, any member of an unlawful organisation, or one who participates in meeting or activities of such organisation, or makes, receives or requests for contribution for the purpose of such organisation, shall be liable for imprisonment, which may be up to three years as well as fine.

Also, a person, although not a member of an unlawful organisation, in any manner makes, receives or requests for contribution for the organisation, or gives protection to any member of such organisation, shall be liable to imprisonment for a period of up to two years as well as fine.

Moreover, a person, who manages any unlawful organisation or assists in its management or gives encouragement to any meeting or to the member of such organisation or assists or participates in any manner in the unlawful activities of such organisations or through any medium or means, is a participant to that, the person shall be liable to imprisonment for such a period, which may not be less than three years as well as fine.
