Burglar arrested, gold jewellery seized

Gulbarga, Mar 13 (UNI) The police has arrested a burglar here and recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 3.75 lakh from him.

Superintendent of Police K Ramaachandra Rao said Mohammed Jaffer (24) was arrested when he was trying to gain entry into a house yesterday.

He said finger print reports confirmed that Jaffer was involved in seven theft cases. Besides robbing locked houses, Jaffer also used to steal by breaking temple hundis.

Mr Rao also informed that security had been tightened here in view of the Holi festival. As many as 1100 personnel had been deployed in the district to prevent any untoward incident.

He said it had also been decided to impose a ban on liquor sale from 1800 hrs today to 1800 hrs on March 16. A decision to this effect was taken at the District Peace Committee meeting attended by Deputy Commissioner in charge Pankaj Kumar Pande and Holi Celebrations Committee President Baburao Jagedhar, among others.
