AIMIM shows picture of officers drinking with contractors

Hyderabad, Mar 13 (UNI) All India Majilis-E-Ittihadul Islameen Floor Leader Akbaruddin Owaisi today embarassed the Congress in the Assembly by producing a picture that appeared in a Telugu daily, allegedly showing irrigation officers drinking with contractors.

Participating in a debate on the Sripadasagar Project, Mr Owaisi objected to the way the government had responded to the alleged Rs 400 fraud in the project, raised by the opposition.

Mr Owaisi asked the government to produce all files before the Speaker and informed the house about the picture.

Government Chief Whip N Kirankumar Reddy intervened and asked the member to produce it, so that the government could take action.

Mr Owaisi submitted it to Panel Speaker G Kutuhalamma, after some heated exchanges over procedure between the treasury and opposition.

Since the AIMIM member did not know Telugu, he asked a TDP member to read out the caption, but the Speaker disallowed it.

As the TDP member continued to press for a chance to read out the caption, Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy objected and urged the Speaker to name the member. The Speaker chided Mr Owaisi for his action and restored order.
