Shimla, Mar 13 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Industries Minister Kuldeep Kumar today said over 90,000 people will be provided employment in the new industrial units that are being set in the state.

Participating in the Budget discussion in the state Assembly here, he said an estimated over 90,000 people would be employed in the new units that were being set up in the state, while 17,665 people have already been employed in these units.

Mr Kumar said the government had cleared 6,069 new industrial units in the new industrial areas of the state, providing employment to about 2.34 lakh people.

The state has also attracted an investment of Rs 16,638 crore during the last three years, he said.

He refuted former chief minister P K Dhumal's claims that the state government was giving different figures of people that would be employed in the industrial units, saying the figures were there for everyone to see.

The Industries Minister also reiterated that 70 per cent of people from Himachal would be employed in these units, while warning of strict action against those units that violate the government's policy.

The government would withdraw the incentives being provided to the companies, make the companies pay for the incentives they have already enjoyed or snap their power connections, they if failed to employed 70 per cent Himachalis, he said.
