Chennai, Mar 13 (UNI) About 200 Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) volunteers today quit the party and joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in the presence of DMK President M Karunanidhi here today.
Salem district former office bearers P Kandasamy, A Govindan, M Suresh and R Jagannathan were among those who joined the party after calling on Mr Karunanidhi at Anna Arivalayam here, a DMK release said.
DMK Treasurer Aroct N Veerasamy, Deputy General Secretary M K Stalin, Headquarters Principal Secretary Duraimurugan, Salem district Secretary Veerapandi S Arumugam and Organising Secretary T K S Elangovan were among others who were present on the occasion, the release said.
This was the second batch from MDMK to join the DMK after the party had quit the DMK-led DPA and forged an alliance with the AIADMK. Last week, about 1,050 volunteers from Kancheepuram district had joined the DMK.
