Shanmugham not to contest

Pondicherry, Mar 12 (UNI) Pondicherry Pradesh Congress Committee President P Shanmugham today said he would not contest the coming assembly elections in the union territory on May three and eight.

Talking to newspersons here he said AICC President Ms. Sonia Gandhi had appointed him to coordinate all the party units and conduct the elections here.

So far 134 aspirants had submitted their applications for the party ticket to contest the elections, and of them, 23 were for reserved constituencies and three women, he said.

He said on request from party cadres, the PCC(I) has extended the last date for receiving applications from the aspirants to March 16 from 15.
