New tourism concept to be introduced

Jyotibhita, (Siliguri), Mar 12 (UNI) Agro Tourism, a new tourism concept which aims to highlight agriculture, would soon be implemented along the Indo-Bangladesh border area under siliguri Sub-division.

This concept is a first in Jyotibhita, 26 kms north of Siliguri in North Bengal. The project would be completed within two months.

The tourists would get a flavour of Darjeeling tea and get to see the different hues of the Gladiolus flower.

The project would utulise 21 acres of land, which include flower cultivation of Gladiolus and Charberra.

The project was taken up by Siliguri subdivision and a private concern, Flowers of Philadelphia, said Moni Thapa, Chief of Siliguri subdivision.

Mrs.Thapa told UNI that seeds for the flowers would be imported from Philadelphia. She also said the seeds of Gladiolus and Orchid would come from there, adding that not only flowers but some vegetables like capsicum, lettuce and green tomatoes will be cultivated.

At least 21 self help groups of Jyotibhita village will get the opportunity to earn as they would be given responsibilities for the project, she added.

Mrs Thapa said flowers would be sent to Bangalore, Guwahati and Kolkata, besides exporting them to Bangladesh and Philadelphia.

This concept would be extended to the sick tea gardens also, Mrs Thapa said.
