National Heart Failure society formed

Hyderabad, Mar 12 (UNI) Cardiologists and Cardiothorasic Surgeons, from all over the country, who participated in a one-day national symposium on ''Heart Failure'' here, today announced the formation of the '' National Heart Failure Society''.

Talking to newsmen here, Cardiology society of India President SK Parasher said the objective of the society was to recognise the heart patients, identify the risk factors and device various methods to check the disease with the involvement of the cardiologists at national level.

Stating that the society would work with multi-pronged approach, Dr Parasher said the heart failure has assumed epidemic proportions despite the availability of many modalities of treatment.

He said ''heart failure'' was a disorder in which the heart loses its ability to pump blood efficiently. But it should not be confused with cardiac arrest, a situation in which the heart actually stops beating.

Dr Parasher said the most common cause of heart failure was high blood pressure and coronary artery disease. As a result, many organs do not receive enough oxygen and nutrients and they do not function properly.
