Man sentenced for smoking hashish

Dubai, Mar 12 (UNI) A man, who claimed he smoked hashish unknowingly in India, was sentenced to four years in jail on drug charges on his arrival in the United Arab Emirates.

The Federal Supreme Court, which upheld the verdicts of the lower courts under the Islamic Shariah laws, rejected R Saeed's plea as hashish was found in his urine.

He told the apex court in Abu Dhabi that he had smoked a cigarette given by a friend a week before his arrival in the UAE, reports said.

The court pointed that laboratory report confirmed traces of hashish in his urine proving that he had actually smoked more than one cigarette.

The court held the view that the accused had indeed known that the content of the cigarette he smoked was hashish and rejected the appeal.
