Mahila Congress hails party

Pondicherry, Mar 12 (UNI) All India Mahila Congress President Rita Bahuguna Joshi today said Congress was the only party which had given the maximum number of seats for women to contest elections.

Adressing a press conference here after the Mahila Congress conference, she said it would be very difficult to get 33 percent reservation for women in allocation of seats in elections, due to male domination.

The Congress party had accommodated 24 percent women all over the country in elections, she said, adding that the Mahila Congress would make a claim for women candidates and was inviting applications from women aspirants.

Only 100 percent winning candidates would be selected from the list of applications, for which the Mahila Congress secretary Kamalakshi Sharma will be staying back in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry for the next few days.

She said no women candidates were fielded in Pondicherry in the last elections and added that the Mahila Congress would demand women be fielded this time.
