Malappuram, Kerala, Mar 12 (UNI) The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) today entrusted its Kerala Unit President Panakkad Syed Muhammadali Shihab Thangal to take a final decision on the party candidates to be fielded in the coming Assembly elections in the State.

Talking to newspersons here, General Secretary P K Kunhalikutty said the decision to this effect had been taken by the IUML Working Committee, which met at Mr Thangal's residence at Panakkad near here in the morning.

He said the Committee also authorised him to constitute a Parliamentary Board to carry out screening of probable candidates, proposed by the District Committees.

Mr Kunhalikutty said Mr Thangal, who was scheduled to leave US for treatment next week, would take a final decision on the candidates before his departure.

The party also asked the state unit chief to take a final decision on a possible poll pact with Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran), he said.

Mr Kunhalikutty was one of the main advocates, favouring a tie up with DIC (K) after it was denied entry into the Opposition Left Democratic Front.

The IUML leader, who engaged DIC (K) leaders, including its founder leader K Karunakaran and President K Muralidharan in discussions on the issue recently, had reportedly sent his report to the Congress High Command on the outcome of his talks.
