New Delhi, Mar 12: The Delhi High Court issued notice to the Delhi Police Commissioner, on a petition filed by a social worker and the President of the South Delhi Housewives Association Ms Saraswathi Pillai, for action against all vehicles with tinted glass, which violates the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) 1989.

Issuing the notice on Tuesday, Justice J P Singh asked the Commissioner of Delhi Police to file on action taken report against all the violators by April 26.

Appearing on behalf of the petitioner, her counsel Willis Mathews, Koshy Jacob and Sanjeev Srivastava argued that cases of molestation, rape and other heinous crimes are increasing at an exponential rate on the roads of Delhi. There is a spurt in crimes in moving vehicles even in broad day light, in the heart of the capital city. The reason being the non-implementation of the rules listed in CMVR, 1998.

The court also asked to prepare a list of all the vehicles with tinted or opaque windows and doors.

The glasses used for side windows should be maintained in such a condition that, the visual transmission of light is not less than 50 per cent and they conform to Indian standards, the petition said.

The petitioner also sought to fix video cameras in various strategic locations on the streets of Delhi for effective implementation of the rules.
