Bomb scare at Vadodara railway station sends cops into tizzy

Vadodara, Mar 12 (UNI) A rumour of a live bomb planted at the Vadodara railway station kept the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel on tenterhooks here this afternoon.

As soon as the news spread at around 1415 hrs, police conducted a thorough search of the entire station premises, including passengers of two trains--2471 Mumbai-Jammu Tawi Swaraj Express and 250 Ahmedabad-Valsad passenger. The report ultimately turned out to be a hoax.

Claiming it to be a ''total rumour'', RPF commandant Ashok Roy said a bomb disposal squad and additional RPF and GRP forces had rushed to the station. The whole station area was searched for nearly one hour with the help of snifer dogs and metal detectors, but nothing was found.

While the railway control room denied that they had received any hoax call, senior RPF officers are investigating the source, from where the rumour spread.

When contacted, Vadodara station master B S Sheikh said barring those two trains, movement of other trains were not affected or delayed because of the panic.
