Army XI defeats Assam Rifles 1-0

Bangalore, Mar 12 (UNI) Army XI further cemented its position in the points table, defeating Assam Rifles by a solitary goal in the Second Division ONGC Cup 10th National Football League (Group B) here today.

The all important goal was scored in the very third minute with striker Ibrahim netting a head pass by Ramachandran, who failed to score after taking a long pass from mid-fielder Nguernilal.

Riflesmen failed to wake up and missed a couple of chances.

Armymen after scoring concentrated more on defence and did not give any opportunity to the opponents to recover.

With this win, Army XI led the table with 13 points after completion of its five encounters in the league, while Assam Rifles remained at the bottom of the table with only one point to its credit from similar number of matches.
