AMC to initiate action agaist 25 defaulters

Akola, Mar 12 (UNI) The Akola Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to initiate action against 25 defaulters for the non-payment of property tax.

According to an AMC release here last evening, the newly appointed commissioner Chandrashekar Rokde has formed a special squad to recover the lakhs of rupees being owed by the defaulters and directed the AMC staff to take stringent action against those, who had failed to pay the tax.

The release said among the defaulters are some public institutions, besides rich citizens, who did not pay the property tax for several years, resulting in losses to the civic body.

The release said former state minister Azhar Hussain's Urdu Education Society has to pay the property tax amounting to Rs 1,07,543.

Among the public institutions are the offices of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Zilla Parishad and PWD, who owed the civic body around Rs nine lakh, five lakh and five lakh respectively, the release said.

There are other institutions such as Akola District Central Co-op Bank, Akola Urban Bank, Nagpur Nagrik Sahakari Bank who had not paid the property tax, the release added.
