Actor Sarath Kumar, 50 others injured in stage collapse

Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu Mar 12 (UNI) Over 50 people, including DMK Rajya Sabha member and actor Sarath Kumar, were injured when the stage erected for a function organised by the actor's fan club collapsed here last night.

Police said the function was organised to distribute welfare articles to the needy at a narrow place, where there was a large gathering.

When Sarath Kumar arrived at the spot, the fans started surging around to get close to him. The efforts of the police and volunteers to control the crowd were futile.

Soon after the actor went up on the overcrowed dais, and started his address, the crowd attempted to get into the dais, which collapsed and caused injuries to over 50 persons, including the actor and a few mediapersons, the police added.

Sources close to Sarath Kumar said the actor had received minor injuries.
