30 distinguished women honoured in UP
Lucknow, Mar 12 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government today honoured 30 women for distinguished services in various spheres.
At a function organised under the auspices of the UP State Women Commission (UPSWC), state PWD and energy minister Shiv Pal Singh Yadav honoured 30 distinguished women including veteran freedom fighter Captain Lakshami Sehgal, District Magistrate (Unnao) Anita Chatterjee, Police Superintendent (Chitrakoot) Shachi Ghildiyal and PCS officer Sushma Tiwari.
Others who were honoured with a momento for contribution to the upliftment of women included journalist Shilpi Sen, Dr Priti Srivastava (Lucknow), Srinishtha (Kanpur), Nikhat Khan (Lucknow) Neha Shukla (Kanpur) Rajwindar Kaur (Sitapur) and Sadhna Upadhayaya (Allahabad).
Later addressing the function the UP minister narrated the steps taken by the state government for the upliftment of women including the Kanya Vidyadhan scholarships for school girls and stressed on the need for complete education of all women, to enable them to fight for their rights.
UPSWC chairperson Dr Ranjana Bajpayee announced holding ''Mahila Diwas'' on eighth of every month on the lines of Tehsil Diwas, in every district, for ensuring speedy redressal of complaints of women.
