Ushanath Banerjee slaps Rs 1.5 cr defamation notice on Modi, Bindra
Kolkata, Mar 11 (UNI) Former BCCI legal advisor Ushanath Banerjee today slapped a Rs 1.5 crore defamation notice on Board Vice President Lalit Modi and former president I S Bindra for accusing him of having disproportionate income in relation to the cases Mr Banerjee fought for the Board.
BCCI Vice-President Lalit Modi and Punjab Cricket Association president I S Bindra in a press conference on March 9 had alleged that Mr Banerjee had earned more than Team India captain Rahul Dravid in 2005 due to his proximity to former BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya.
In a notice through solicitors Victor Moses&Company, Mr Banerjee called for an unqualified apology within 48 hours from ''first receipt'' of the notice through electronic and print media.
The notice signed by Victor Moses&Company partner Amit Basu said, ''The false imputations and aspersions had seriously prejudiced Mr Banerjee's reputation entitling him to claim general damages of Rs 1.5 crore apart from special damages in case Mr Modi and Mr Bindra failed to come out with an unconditional apology.''
