Implementation of Narendran panel report historic: Shanavaz

Pathanamthitta, Mar 11 (UNI) Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary M I Shanavaz today said the implementation of Justice Narendran Commission report through a package based on consensus can be described as historic and revolutionary.

Inaugurating the valedictory session of Kerala Muslim Jama-Ath Youth Council State Conference here, he said as Kerala was a communally sensitive state, the steps taken by the UDF Government to translate the Narendran Commission report into action was a boon to the economically backward Muslim community.

He said that out of the total of 25,000 appointments made by the Public Service Commission every year, Muslim candidates were able to bag 3,500 of them under the new system.

This was higher by 1,000 compared to earlier statistics. All communities, both majority and minority, should march ahead in peace and prosperity, he added.

Mr Shanavaz came down heavily on the 'ominous' silence of the CPI(M) on the report.
