Anju fails to make it to long jump finals in Moscow Indoor meet
New Delhi, Mar 11 (UNI) Anju Bobby George could not make it to the women's long jump finals after her below-par leap of 6.34m fell way short of the qualification standard in the 11th World Indoor Championships at Moscow today.
According to information received here, Anju's three attempts of 6.16m, 6.34m and 6.33m could not satisfy the qualification standard of 6.55m or at least best eight qualified.
Two-time World Indoor champion, Tatyana Kotova (6.73) of Russia led the table, followed by 2004 World Indoor Pentathlon champion Naide Gomes of Portugal, also on 6.73. American Tianna Madison (6.60), Russian Oksana Udmurtova (6.58), Spaniard Concha Montaner and Greek Stiliani Pilatou -- both on 6.55 -- Latvian Ineta Radevica (6.51) and Cuban Yargelis Savigne (6.46) also reached the finals.
Anju now leaves for Melbourne but she will have to come up with an improved show to live upto the expectations in the Commonwealth Games there.
