Aizawl, Mar 10 (UNI) The much-awaited Greater Aizawl Water Supply Scheme (AGWSS) phase II resurfaced in the House today with opposition MLAs wanting to know how long the people of Aizawl have to wait for the completion of the decade-long project.

''The Greater Aizawl Water Supply Scheme is supposed to be completed by 2006. However, it has not been completed as of now'', Public Health Engineering minister Tawnluia said.

The reasons, the minister, said were the Centre stopped releasing funds since February 2003 and manufacturers discontinued supply of equipment due to technical problems.

The opposition MLAs asked if the government has done anything to ease the present water supply crisis in Aizawl since ''it is certain that the GAWSS II would not be finished in the near future''.

There are 21267 water connections in the GAWSS phase I against its actual capacity of 10000 connections.
