Sun Microsystems lead shipments to India in non x86/unix server

Bangalore, Mar 10 (UNI) Sun Microsystems India today announced that it held the unit shipment leadership in India in 2005 in the non-x86/unix server market for the sixth consecutive year.

Quoting IDC Asia/Pacific Quarterly Enterprise Server Tracker Quarter 4 2005 data, it said in a release here that last year, it commanded 55.6 per cent in unit shipment market share terms.

The release said Sun held the joint leadership position in the non-x86/Unix server market in factory revenue market share terms for the full year 2005.

The non-x86/Unix server market consisted of 64-bit EPIC and RISC architecture servers running a flavor of Unix. ''Sun has held our dominance in the India non-x86/Unix server market for six years now. This clearly shows that Sun's systems continue to be favoured by mission critical sectors such as telecommunications, financial services, service providers and manufacturing enterprises -enterprises with needs for managing unpredictable user loads, in fast-changing networked environments,'' Sun Microsystems India Managing Director Bhaskar Pramanik said.
