Snow in Himachal Pradesh

Chandigarh, Mar 10 (UNI) High altitude areas in Himachal Pradesh experienced fresh snowfall while certain areas in Punjab and Haryana witnessed rain during the past 24 hours.

The mercury, however, kept up with cloudy weather persisting in most of the areas in the region.

Moderate to heavy rain or snow is expected in Himachal Pradesh while light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur in Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours, according to the Met office here.

It has predicted hailstorm or thundersquall with wind speed exceeding 45 km per hours at isolated places in the region during the period.

Higher reaches in the tribal districts of Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur and Pangi valley in Himachal Pradesh had another spell of snowfall.

The entire tribal belt reeled under intense cold wave conditions.

Dhundi recorded 34 cm snow and Patsio two cm snowfall.

The 13050-foot Rohtang Pass, access to Lahaul Spiti district, and other high mountain passes received another spell of moderate snowfall.

Most areas in Punjab and Haryana experienced cloudy weather during the day. Patiala recorded 2.3 mm rain and Ambala 0.5 mm rainfall till 0830 hours.

Mid hills in Himachal Pradesh experienced rain. Bhang-Manali recorded 4.6 mm rain and Solang nullah 9.4 mm rainfall. Shimla measured one mm rain till this morning.

Dark clouds hung over Chandigarh and its adjoining areas, turning the weather freakish. The city recorded trace rainfall till this morning.
