New Delhi, Mar 10: A public interest litigation petition was filed in the Supreme Court today (Mar 10, 2006) seeking directions to the Centre and the state of Uttar Pradesh to provide adequate security to all the temples in Varanasi in view of the bomb blasts in Sankat Mochan Temple and Railway station killing 20 people and injuring over 100.

The petitioner's counsel M. M . Kashyap today told the mediapersons that he would mention the matter tomorrow before the Registrar General of the Supreme Court for getting an early date of hearing.

Petitioner Mohamed Aslam Bhure had earlier also filed a number of petitions in connection with the Babri Masjid case.

Security around places of worship has already been stepped up after the blast in Sankat Mochan temple on Tuesday.

The state government has also announced compensation of Rs. 5 lakhs for the families of the dead victims and Rs. one lakh for those seriously injured and Rs. 50000 for those injured.

The petitioner has contended that such explosions were aimed at disturbing communal peace and harmony in the state.
