ICRISAT uses biotech to prevent diseases in pearl millet

Hyderabad, Mar 10 (UNI) Scientists from the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) Scientist today said that the institute had discovered new methods harnessing advances in biotechnology to prevent diseases in pearl millet.

Delivering a lecture on 'Agriculture Bio technology with human face' as part of the three-day ''Agri Biotech 2006'' international conference here, Dr David Hoisington said the ICRISAT had conducted tests on the diseases of pearl millet at its labs with new methods recently.

The results were fruitful and the methods would elimitate the perennial disease problem in pearl millet, he said, adding that the new methods developed with the induction of latest advances in bio-technology will be applied at field level at the earliest.
