Heavy overcast sky, slight rain in Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 10 (UNI) After a sudden hailstorm and brief spell of heavy rains on Wednesday, the capital today again experienced slight rainfall, accompanied by lightning and thundershowers, in several areas.

It was a heavy overcast sky that welcomed Delhiites this morning with thick clouds hovering over the skyline, accompanied by a pleasant breeze, bringing coolness in the air.

Then, at around 1300 hours, a slight drizzle sent Delhiites looking for shelter. The cool breeze, accompanied by the rain brought immense relief for the people who, for the first time in the last more than a month experienced slightly chilly conditions, a sharp contrast to the scorching conditions since the beginning of February.

Weathermen said the rainfall and coolness in the weather are direct offshoot of an upper air cyclonic storm originating from areas in Rajasthan. This coupled with north-westerly winds resulted in a sharp drop in maximum temperature to 29.7 degree Celsius yesterday from 34 degree on Wednesday.

Today was the third day in succession that Delhi witnessed a cloud cover.

On Wednesday, the thick cloud cover that enveloped the skyline towards evening resulted in a sudden burst of rainfall and a hailstorm. A total of 3.1 mm rainfall was recorded till yesterday.

The fresh spell of rain could continue for the next few days, weathermen said, indicating that the coolness in the temperature is expected to remain for the next few days. Infact, the met office has predicted a generally cloudy sky and more rain and thundershowers during the next 24 hours.

The BBC has also forecast heavy showers in the capital tomorrow.

It also forecast a drop in minimum temperature to 18 degree Celsius tomorrow, from 19 Degree Celsius today.

The BBC has also predicted cooler days ahead in the capital.

Infact, it forecast a drop in minimum temperature to 13 degree Celsius on March 14, the Holi day, which normally heralds the onset of summer.
