HC stays land acquisition for new HUDA sectors in Sonipat
Chandigarh, Mar 10 (UNI) Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA)'s plans to set up Sectors 65 to 68 at Sonipat have been stalled for the time being as the Punjab and Haryana High Court today stayed the acquisition of land for the same.
While staying the land acquisition, the division bench of Justices Jagjit Singh Narang and Kiran Anand Lal also issued notices to the Haryana Government and HUDA among others for August 7 when a similar matter pertaining to another chunk of land acquired to be heard.
The bench gave the orders during the preliminary hearing on a bunch of petitions by Mohinder Singh and others belonging to village Asawarpur, Setli, Bad Khalsa and Patla challenging the acquisition of their lands against a ''paltry payment.'' The petition preferred by Sarswati Samiti School (a co-education 10 plus two school) in the affected villages, which has 1,200 students on its rolls, alleged that the State Government was indulging in discrimination in seeking to demolish their building in order to acquire the land while it had spared a state run middle school in the close proximity of the petitioner's land.
