GPRS-MMS facility to BSNL mobile service customers in Goa soon

Panaji, Mar 10 (UNI) The mobile phone customers of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in Goa will soon enjoy the GPRS and MMS facilities, State Telecom General Manager A D Desarkar said.

Explaining salient features of various telecom services in the country in general and Goa in particular, he said about 4,000 customers would be provided with broad band connectivity by next month as against the existing 2,500 customers in 12 locations in Goa. The service would be available in 16 more locations soon.

Under the vision plan, five cities in Goa were being connected with optical fibre cable for providing the customers with internet protocol based network with ''convergence technology'' benefit so that they could enjoy audio, video and text facilities at one go.

The connectivity in Panaji city in 55 km was over while the work to link Verna, Mapusa, Margao and Vasco-da-Gama by laying in all 250 km optical fibre cable, would be completed by March next year, he said.

Significantly, the teledensity in was 18 in Goa, considered the higher than the national average of 13 while efforts were underway to raise the national teledensity to 25 by next year.

The Goa telecom was also negotiating with banks like HDFC, UTI and Canara Bank, among others, for introducing the internet banking facility for accepting customers telephone bills through the Internet soon, he added.
