EC cracks whip, arms and ammunition recovered
Guwahati, Mar 10 (UNI) The Election Commission(EC) has started cracking the whip on 'anti-socials' in Asom even as the police recovered large quantity of arms and ammunition in their ongoing operation before polls in the state.
Chief Electoral Officer(CEO) J P Prakash told newspersons here today that 24 weapons, 94 rounds of ammunition and three kgs of explosives have been recovered in the state during the past few days.
The EC has sought a list of ''anti-socials'' as well as habituated criminals from all the districts and has collected a list having 3,155 such names.
He said there were 13,810 non-bailable arrest warrants issued over the years and of them 1961 was executed since January, 2006 and the EC has asked all the DCs and SPs to implement the same before the poll.
The state capital has the highest number of such cases with 1,608 arrest warrants followed by Nagaon and Karbi Anglong.
The election process in Asom formally started today.
