Docu on plight of the Pachyderms makes to US film Fest
Guwahati, Mar 10 (UNI) A small budget documentary, 'In search of Job' on the struggle and pain of the unemployed elephants of Asom is all set to be screened in the prestigious Silver Lake Film Festival, Los Angeles, starting March 23.
The festival's Fusion Asian Cinema Programme Director Erika Kao-Haley said in a statement today that Filmmaker Mrinal Talukdar has been invited to attend the festival from March 23 to 30 in the 'Special Invitation Film' category.
Mr Talukdar, a journalist, made the film last year.
The film is about 1200 domestic unemployed elephants of Asom, who are fighting law, bureaucracy and ignorance to survive.
The film earned rave reviews in the South Asia documentary film festival, New Delhi earlier this year. It was was also screened in the BYFF, Puri.
The Centre for Civil Society (CCS), New Delhi, also held a special screening of the film for the MP's of the North East last week to build public opinion and apprise the policy makers about the plight of the pachyderms.
The Silver Lake Film Festival is one of the top five festivals of Los Angeles. This is the only major 'Non-genre' film festival focussed on presenting the best of independent film in the entertainment capital of the world.
Meanwhile, the Paris based 'Des elephants et des hommes' have also included the documentary in their hall of fame as one of the important movies made on elephants.
