Mumbai, Mar 10 (UNI) Special Anti-Corruption Bureau Judge S P Mahajan today reserved the bail order of the suspended Assistant Commissioner of Police Baban Kadam to March 13.

Kadam, who is presently in judicial custody till March 24, was produced in the court this afternoon.

The ACB sleuths have registered a case against him in February for allegedly amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

In the court, defence counsel Majeed Memon argued that his client was suspended from service for his alleged involvement in the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) scam and was in custody for about 30 months since July 2002 in an identical case. The ACB officials had thoroughly searched his house, office and other documents.

Opposing the bail plea, Public Prosecutor R V Kini, however, said that Kadam joined the force in 1971 and inquiry was initiated by the investigation team to record the statement of the witnesses from 1971 to 2003. The former senior police officer's release on bail would hamper the investigation, as he would influence the witnesses.

Kadam was stated to have amassed property worth over Rs 2.6 crore, besides a luxurious flat in the western suburb of Goregaon and a bungalow in the Konkan region.
