CII Welcomes Delhi Govt' s emphasis on Infrastructure, health

New Delhi, Mar 10 (UNI) The CII today welcomed the Delhi Budget for its' several steps to boost infrastructure and health sectors.

''The obvious emphasis on infrastructure especially transport will put Delhi on the right track to deal with the challenges of the Commonwealth Games 2010 and the needs of a growing modern city. It is a right step in the direction to make Delhi a world class city,'' Mr A K Kaul, Chairman, CII Delhi State Council, said in his reaction to the Delhi Budget presented yesterday.

''The construction of roads, flyovers, elevated corridors will ease the traffic congestion,''Mr Kaul said.

''The long awaited Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System (DIMMTS) - the new SPV for an integrated approach to multi modal transportation will work well towards ushering in new age transport in Delhi in a cohesive manner,'' he added.

He also welcomed measures in the Delhi Budget to boost the health sector.

''The addition of the Super Speciality Hospital at Janakpuri and 1900 new hospital beds will add to the advantage that Delhi has in the area of healthcare,''he said.

However, zoning of Delhi for co-ordinated healthcare facilities, including preventive medicine must be done at the earliest, he said.

Complementing the Delhi government for its renewed focus on tourism, Mr Ankur Bhatia, Vice Chairman, CII Delhi State Council said that the development of the second Dilli Haat at Pitampura and Mini India Tourism and Cultural Park will go a long way to promote Delhi as the cultural hub of India and represent true cosmopolitan spirit and rich heritage of Delhi.

''Now that healthcare and tourism have been focussed on, adequate focus should also be given to promote Retail in Delhi. With the Central Govt. recently allowing part FDI in retail, it signifies the importance of Retail as an emerging sector and a growth driver. I foresee retail as a significant contributor to state GDP in future and therefore, the need to create a conducive environment,''Mr Bhatia said.
