Shillong, Mar 10: Border Security Force personnel have busted a fake Indian currency racket that originated in Dhaka with assistance from Bangladesh fundamentalist groups and Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI, official sources said today (Mar 10, 2006).

On a tip off, the BSF arrested a Bangladeshi national in Meghalaya's Garo Hill region along with fake Indian currency notes worth Rs 33,000 from his possession on the intervening night of March eight and nine.

According to BSF officials, the raid carried out near Dalu in the district led to the claim that the Bangladesh fundamentalist groups and ISI were still active and are operating in all the North-eastern state through middle men, most of them Indian.

Senior BSF officials said that a special BSF operation team carried out a combing operation in the house of one Makcheng Marak, a local man, near Dalu in West Garo Hills at the midnight of March eight and arrested one Mohd Roby, a Bangladeshi, along with fake currency notes.

The forces found two Rs 1000 denomination notes and 62 numbers of Rs 500 denomination notes.

Marak, the house owner, however, managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

The BSF further investigated into the matter following leads provided by the arrested Bangladeshi. Next day they conducted raids in the house of one Paswan Barman.

According to the confession of the apprehended Bangladeshi national, Makcheng Marak and Paswan Barman were fake currency dealers operating in and across the border area of West Garo Hills.

He also claimed that one Khurshid Alam, resident of Sribordi in Sherpur district of Bagladesh is the main supplier of Indian currency.
