Bird flu rumours causing Rs 2 crore daily loss in Punjab: Minister

Ludhiana, Mar 10 (UNI) Punjab Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Jagmohan Singh Kang today said bird flu rumours are causing a daily loss of Rs two crore to poultry trade in the State.

Inaugurating a seminar on bird flu, organized by College of Veterinary Science, Punjab Poultry Farmer's Association and State Department, Mr Kang said even the neighbouring Jammu and Kashmir has lifted the ban on sale of eggs across the Punjab boundary, while clearance is awaited for allowing poultry birds to J&K.

He also revealed that Punjab was in constant touch with Delhi and neighbouring states to safeguard the interest of Rs 750 crore poultry industry getting ruined in Punjab, because of unfounded rumours.

Mr Kang called for caution against rumour mongers and assured the people that not a single case of bird flu was reported from Punjab till date.
