BCCI says it is against Twenty20 format in Commonwealth Games

Mohali, March 10 (UNI) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today reietared that it was against the Twenty20 format proposed for the 2010 edition of the Commonwealth Games scheduled in Delhi.

Criticised by the Indian Olympic Association and the organising committee of the 2010 Games for not showing interest so that cricket becomes a part of disciplines in the event, BCCI Joint Secretary MP Pandove defended the board's stance, saying it was against the Twenty20 format.

''We have informed that Commonwealth Games Organising Committee that we are not in favour of the Twenty20 format. Only 50-overs-a-side matches were possible at the Commonwealth Games,'' he said.

Earlier, BCCI had said in clear terms that the slam-bang version of the game did not need any encouragement in the country and time was not ripe for such experiments.
