Women's organisation to urge NHRC to enquire into 'mass rape'
Imphal, Mar 9: The joint women's organisation has decided to take up the issue of alleged rape of 22 girls at Churachandpur district by suspected militants with the National Human Rights Commission.
A large number of women's and students' bodies have demanded a probe into the matter, which allegedly took place on January 16, and adequate compensation to the victims.
Meanwhile, the United National Liberation Front had denied its involvement in the alleged crime. Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh had earlier informed that the government was ready for a probe into the matter.
Police said so far ten cases of rape had been registered by the Parbung police station, Churachandpur.
A rally was also taken out yesterday in the district to protest the alleged rape by suspected militants.
