Chennai, Mar 9 (UNI) Spurned over MDMK General Secretary Vaiko's decision to forge an alliance with the AIADMK, a group of about 1,000 MDMK volunteers today quit the party and joined the DMK.

The volunteers hailing from Kancheepuram district and led by MDMK Poondi Union President Gajendran, joined the DMK in the presence of party President M Karunanidhi at Anna Arivalayam here this evening.

Addressing the newcomers, Mr Karunanidhi said Mr Vaiko had taken the decision to align with the AIADMK as early as on January 18 and he remained deceived for nearly a month.

When all the front rung MDMK leaders launched a scathing attack against Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in the January 18 Virudhunagar meeting, Mr Vaiko refrained from making any remarks against her, Mr Karunanidhi pointed out.

The MDMK leader had gone to the AIADMK camp for additional seats and for election expenses, he said adding that it was matter of regret that Mr Vaiko had joined hands with Ms Jayalalithaa, who was bent upon burying the ideals of Dravidian stalwart and late Chief Minister C N Annadurai.
