Sreesanth bags Star of the Year award

Kozhikode, Mar 9 (UNI) Budding pace bowler S Sreesanth has been chosen for this year's 'Star of the Year' award for his oustanding performance in the recent India-Pakistan one dayers and the Test series.

The people in Kerala as a whole and youngsters in particular were elated over his remarkable performance by taking the wicket of top batsmen in the world during the tourney, Mathrubhumi Sports Magazine, which instituted the award, said, in a release here today.

A jury consisting of Olympian M B Suresh Babu, Kerala Cricket Association President and former BCCI secretary S K Nair, former president of All India Football Federation P P Lakshmanan, former international volleyball player S Gopinath and noted sports journalist K Pradeep selected him for the award, it said.

The award, with a purse of Rs 100,001 will be presented in April at a venue to be decided later, the release said, Cricketer Tinu Yohannan, longjumper Anju Bobby George, athletes K M Beenamol and K M Binu were earlier winners of the award.
