Shimla, Mar 9 (UNI) The tribal valleys and other higher hills of Himachal Pradesh were reeling under intense cold wave conditions after high altitude areas of Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Pangi and Bharmour and other high mountain passes, including Rohtang Pass, received another spell of moderate to heavy snowfall during the last 24 hours.

The other mid and lower hills, including state capital Shimla, were swept by strong velocity winds, accompanied by intermittent showers.

The night temperature rose to 9.8 degrees at Shimla but it dipped to minus eleven degrees at Patsio.

Intermittent heavy snowfall in Lahaul tribal valley intensified the cold wave as day temperature, which had risen to 16 degrees last week, plummeted to minus four degrees today.

The fresh snowfall had hampered the opening of the Manali-Leh national highway and some roads within the tribal valleys.

The Rohtang pass also experienced heavy snowfall. Lahaul Spiti deputy commissioner urged the people not to venture out and cross the Pass on foot.

The late snowfall in Lahaul valley had cheered the sports lovers and a ski fair was being organised at Koksar on March 11.

Manali, Solang, Dhundi and other adjoining places had mild rains, while the weather remained cloudy in mid and lower hills.
