Senior faculty positions not to be filled on contract: CM

Shimla, Mar 9 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said that 137 faculty positions of different categories are vacant at the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) here and Dr Rajinder Parshad Government Medical College at Tanda in Kangra district.

Replying to a question raised by Rajiv Bindal (BJP) during Question Hour, he said the government would not fill senior faculty positions like professors on contract, while associate and assistant professors could be filled on contract basis.

Mr Singh, however, admitted that the state government was facing difficulty in recruiting senior medical faculty.

He said the government was making efforts to fill up the vacant posts either through DPC or by direct recruitment or by way of contract.

Vacant posts of associate professors would be filled 100 per cent by promotions from amongst the assistant professors or assistant professors or lecturers failing which by direct recruitment, he said.
