Samata Parishad demands reservation of seats for SC
Mumbai, Mar 9 (UNI) Samata Parishad president Vijay Girkar today demanded that as per the 2001 census, there should eight Lok Sabha and 47 Vidhan Sabha seats reserved for scheduled castes.
Talking to reporters, Mr Girkar said based on the 2001 census it was recommended that five seats in the Lok Sabha and 29 in Vidhan Sabha be reserved for people belonging to scheduled castes, but this calculation had not been taken into consideration by former Prime Minister V P Singh's government, which decided to give all the facilities to the neo-Buddhists.
He said the census commission had calculated 10.2 per cent population of scheduled castes, but with the addition of six per cent of neo-buddhists, the total has gone up to 16.2 per cent and therefore, the reservation should be given to the same.
Samata Parishad will organise symposiums and campaign drives to do away with this injustice, he added.
