Rs 1.56 crore being spent on buying machines

Shimla, Mar 9 (UNI) To ensure adequate drinking water supply to residents of Shimla during the summers, the state government is spending a sum of Rs 1.56 crore on replacing and buying spare water pumps at Ashwani Khad, IHP Minister Kaul Singh Thakur said today.

Presiding over a meeting of IPH officers called to review the water supply system in the town, he said 10 tube wells had been installed at Ashwani Khad and Gumma to supplement the drinking water requirement of the town.

Mr Thakur said 45 handpumps had been installed at various locations in the town to deal with water scarcity, adding that 10 more handpumps would be installed soon.

He said a sum of Rs 77 lakh was being spent on the purchase of spare parts for water pumps at Ashwani Khad.

The government was also considering a proposal to set up two tube wells at source level close to Shimla, he said.

The IPH minister said social workers committees would be constituted to check leakage and overflowing of water from water tanks in the town.
