PIOs may be allowed in civil aviation through FDI: Patel
New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) The government is considering a proposal to allow the participation of Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) in the domestic civil aviation sector through the FDI route, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel informed the Lok Sabha today.
However, there is no time-frame for taking a decision on the proposal, the Minister said in a written reply.
FLIGHTS: Mumbai tops the list of international airports in India in terms of average number of flights operated in a day.
Mumbai operates 452 flights, followed by Delhi with 399, Chennai (179), Kolkata (132), Thiruvananthapuram (30), Bangalore (180), Hyderabad (129), Ahmedabad (54), Goa (39), Guwahati (40), Amritsar (12), Srinagar (11), Cochin (54), Jaipur (22) and Nagpur (13).
BIRD HITS: Airports of Authority of India (AAI) is planning to undertake a study on bird activity at night at Indira Gandhi International Airport. AAI has received quotation from Bombay Natural History Society which has carried out such surveys in the past, Mr Patel said in another reply.
To reduce the occurrence of bird hit incidents, AAI takes various preventive measures like establishment of airfield environment management committees, proper collection and disposal of garbage, covering garbage dumps and installation of incinerators, he said.
